Released: 17 January 2019

Mustang Gold is a 5x3 slot with 25 fixed lines, so the minimum spin sits around R2.50. The line pays from the horses, the cowgirl and the card symbols are ordinary. What is not ordinary is the horseshoe. Horseshoe money symbols land on reels 1 to 4 showing a value from 1x to 35x the stake, and on their own they pay nothing. They wait.

The Collect symbol only appears on reel 5. When it lands, every horseshoe on screen is paid at face value, all at once. Three horseshoes showing 5x, 10x and 20x with a Collect is 35x the stake, R87.50 on a R2.50 spin, on top of any line wins. A horseshoe can also carry a jackpot label instead of a number. If a Collect lands while one is showing, you go to the Jackpot Reveal and pick until three symbols match: Mini 50x, Minor 100x, Major 200x or Grand 1,000x.

Three fireplace scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4 give 8 free spins, and the reels change for the round. There are more horseshoes and more Collect symbols on them, so the thing that happens once every few dozen spins in the base game starts happening every few spins. Three more scatters add another 8 and that can keep going. The 12,000x maximum needs a long retriggered round with high value horseshoes and repeat Collects.

The volatility is high. The base game can run long stretches of horseshoes that never get collected, and that is the cost of the feature. The 96.53% RTP is the standard setting. There is no bonus buy and no ante bet listed in the sources, so the free spins have to land on their own. Scorebet carries the game in its Pragmatic Play catalogue.

What the features do

Money Collect: horseshoe money symbols on reels 1 to 4 carry 1x to 35x the stake, and a Collect symbol on reel 5 pays out every one on screen at once
Jackpot horseshoes: a horseshoe can carry a jackpot instead of cash, and if a Collect lands with it you play the Jackpot Reveal
Jackpot Reveal: match three symbols to win the Mini (50x), Minor (100x), Major (200x) or Grand (1,000x) jackpot
Free spins: 8 spins on reels loaded with extra money and Collect symbols, so the collect hits far more often
Retrigger: 3 more scatters on reels 2 to 4 during the round add another 8 spins, with no limit

Before you spin

Watch reel 5, not the horses. A board full of horseshoes with no Collect pays nothing, and that is most of the base game.
The jackpot horseshoe is only worth something with a Collect in the same spin. Do not chase it as if it were a scatter.
Stake for a long wait. At R2.50 a spin a few hundred base spins is normal between free spins rounds.
In the free spins, each retrigger is worth more than the spins before it because the reels stay loaded. The round builds.

Mustang Gold questions

What is the RTP of Mustang Gold?

96.53% on the standard version. It is a long-run average, and some operators run lower settings, so check the paytable in the game before you play.

How does the Money Collect feature work?

Horseshoe symbols on reels 1 to 4 show a cash value from 1x to 35x the stake. They pay only when a Collect symbol lands on reel 5 in the same spin, and then every horseshoe on screen is paid together.

What are the Mustang Gold jackpots?

Four fixed jackpots: Mini 50x, Minor 100x, Major 200x and Grand 1,000x the stake. A horseshoe carrying a jackpot label plus a Collect symbol opens the Jackpot Reveal, where you pick until three symbols match.

What is the maximum win on Mustang Gold?

12,000 times the stake, confirmed by Pragmatic Play. At R2.50 a spin that is R30,000. It needs a long retriggered free spins round with high horseshoe values and repeat Collects.

Can I play Mustang Gold in South Africa?

Yes. Scorebet is licensed by the Northern Cape Gambling Board and carries the Pragmatic Play slots catalogue, Mustang Gold included. You must be 18 or older and registered.
