Volatility: Medium
Max win: 375x
Reels: 3x3 with a fourth multiplier reel, 5 paylines
Released: 15 March 2018

Aztec Gems is a 3x3 game with 5 paylines, which puts the minimum spin at a few cents a line and makes it one of the cheapest ways to play in the catalogue. The symbols are coloured gems and a golden totem mask. A win is three of a kind across reels 1 to 3 on a line. The totem is the wild and the top symbol: three of them pay 5x the stake on a line, and the red gem pays 4x.

Those numbers look small until the fourth reel stops. It carries no symbols, only a multiplier: 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x or 15x. Whatever lands there is applied to every winning line on that spin. A 5x line win on a R2 stake is R10. With the 15x showing it is R150. The 375x maximum is the arithmetic of the game: all five lines paying the top symbol with 15x on the fourth reel.

The totem lands stacked, which is how the bigger spins happen. A full reel of wilds completes three lines at once, and a second stacked reel next to it can complete all five. Those are the spins that make a 10x or 15x on the multiplier reel count. A plain gem line with a 1x is the common result, and that is most spins.

There are no free spins, no bonus round and no jackpot. The volatility is medium and the RTP of the standard version is 96.52%, with a 94.52% build at some operators. For a player who wants a fast, cheap, low-decision game with a visible multiplier, this is it. The Deluxe and Megaways versions are different games with different maths. Scorebet carries the original in its Pragmatic Play catalogue.

What the features do

Multiplier reel: the fourth reel is not a symbol reel, it shows 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x or 15x and multiplies every win on that spin
Three-symbol wins: match three symbols across reels 1 to 3 on any of the 5 lines, with the top symbol paying 5x the stake before the multiplier
Stacked wild: the golden totem is wild, lands stacked, and is also the highest paying symbol on its own
Stacking lines: several lines can win on one spin and they all take the same multiplier
No free spins and no bonus round: the multiplier reel is the only feature

Before you spin

The maximum is 375x, not thousands. Stake accordingly: this is a game for a long, cheap session, not a jackpot chase.
Only a spin that already wins uses the multiplier reel. A 15x on a losing board is nothing, so do not treat it as a near miss.
A stacked totem reel is the real event. One full wild reel completes three lines and a second one completes all five, which is the only route to the top payout.

Aztec Gems questions

What is the RTP of Aztec Gems?

96.52% on the standard version. A 94.52% build exists at some operators, so check the paytable inside the game before you play.

How does the multiplier reel work?

The fourth reel shows only a multiplier, 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x or 15x, and it is applied to every winning line on that spin. It does nothing on a spin with no line win.

What is the maximum win on Aztec Gems?

375 times the stake: all five lines paying the top symbol, 5x each, with a 15x on the multiplier reel. At R2 a spin that is R750.

Does Aztec Gems have free spins?

No. There are no free spins, no bonus round and no jackpot. The multiplier reel is the only feature. The Deluxe and Megaways versions are separate games with their own features.

Can I play Aztec Gems in South Africa?

Yes. Scorebet is licensed by the Northern Cape Gambling Board and carries the Pragmatic Play slots catalogue, Aztec Gems included. Players must be 18 or older.
