LEGAL
SELF EXCLUSION
At ScoreBet, we are committed to promoting responsible gambling and providing practical tools for players who may need help managing their play. As part of this commitment, we fully support self-exclusion in line with the National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP), the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF), and national legislation as enforced by the National Gambling Board (NGB) and Provincial Licensing Authorities (PLAs).
What Is Self-Exclusion?
Self-exclusion is a voluntary agreement where a player formally requests to be barred from participating in gambling activities for a minimum of six (6) months. This break gives individuals time to seek support, regain control, and protect themselves from further gambling-related harm.
Once a self-exclusion order is submitted, it is legally binding. The excluded individual will be denied access to any ScoreBet products, services, or promotional offers during the exclusion period. Attempting to bypass these restrictions may lead to legal consequences.
Who Can Apply for Self-Exclusion?
Any individual who believes they may be at risk of gambling-related harm can apply for exclusion. Requests can be made through one of the following channels:
- ScoreBet Security or Customer Support Teams
- Your Provincial Gambling Board or Licensing Authority (PLA)
- The National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP)
We strongly encourage those applying for self-exclusion to also engage with the NRGP’s free treatment and counselling services, which are available not only to the individual but also to close family members who may be affected.
How Self-Exclusion Works
The self-exclusion process includes the following steps:
- The player submits a self-exclusion request directly to ScoreBet or another licensed operator.
- The operator assists the player in completing the necessary documentation.
- Documents are submitted to the relevant Provincial Licensing Authority and the National Gambling Board for record keeping.
- Self-exclusion is enforced across all regulated gambling activities, both online and land-based, for at least six months.
Your Responsibilities During Exclusion
While ScoreBet will do everything in our power to prevent access, the effectiveness of self-exclusion ultimately depends on the excluded individual respecting the agreement. It is strictly prohibited to attempt to create new accounts, falsify identification, or gamble through third-party assistance during the exclusion period.
Failure to comply may result in:
- Immediate denial of access to the platform or physical premises
- Removal from the premises (if land-based)
- Possible trespassing charges under South African law
Upliftment of Self-Exclusion
After the minimum six-month exclusion period, individuals may apply to have their self-exclusion lifted. However, upliftment will only be considered if the following conditions are met:
- The applicant has completed counselling sessions with an NRGP-accredited treatment professional
- They can demonstrate a commitment to responsible gambling and behavioural change
- The NRGP or relevant PLA provides confirmation of treatment participation
Accessing Help and Support
All self-exclusion support and treatment services through the NRGP are free and confidential. If you are ready to take the first step, please use one of the following channels:
