3. FICA

3.1        FICA Compliance:

ScoreBet complies with the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, Act 38 of 2001, as amended (FICA). FICA mandates requirements for identity establishment, customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, record retention, and other measures to prevent money laundering, terrorism financing, and other criminal activities in the betting services provided by licensed bookmakers like ScoreBet.

3.2    Procedures and Restrictions:

ScoreBet adheres to FICA-specified procedures and restrictions. Where FICA does not specify, ScoreBet implements its own procedures (subject to applicable legislation) to promote good corporate governance and socially responsible betting practices.

3.2        Identification Requirements in Retail Environment:

When a customer in a retail environment:

(i) Bets R50 000 or more on a single bet, or

(ii) Claims winnings of R50 000 or more.

3.3        ScoreBet must verify: the customer's identity before processing the transaction.

3.4        Online Account Creation:

For online betting accounts, ScoreBet must first establish and verify the identity of all customers under FICA.

During account registration, customers must disclose:

(i) Full names

(ii) South African Identity Number or Passport Number

(iii) Residential Address

(iv) Email Address

(v) Mobile and/or landline telephone number(s)

(vi) Source of funds for betting purposes

3.5        Identity Verification:

No betting account will be created until ScoreBet conclusively establishes and verifies the identity of the customer.

3.6        Procedures for Proof of Identification and Address:

ScoreBet follows specific procedures for customers requiring proof of identification and residential address:

(i) Photocopying and verifying ID documents presented in person on licensed premises.

(ii) Accepting certified true copies of ID documents transmitted via fax, email, or mail.

(iii) Accepting a driver’s license under certain conditions as an alternative to an ID document.

(iv) Utility bills or similar documents must be dated no earlier than three months prior to submission to ScoreBet.

3.7        Customer Consent for Verification and Screening:

By completing ScoreBet’s online registration form, customers consent to ScoreBet conducting identification, credit, verification, screening, or security checks as required by applicable legislation, regulatory authorities, or the Regulator.

3.8        Sharing of Customer Information:

ScoreBet may share customer identifying details and related information with third-party service providers for identity verification, screening, or other necessary checks.

3.9        Documents Required:

Customers may be required to provide copies of their identity documents, proof of physical address (such as utility bills), and proof of banking account details during registration or at any stage while holding a betting account with ScoreBet.

Failure to provide required documents within specified timeframes may result in account suspension or termination.

3.10     Reporting of Large Transactions:

ScoreBet is required to report single cash transactions above R24,999.99 to the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC).

3.11     Reporting Obligations:

ScoreBet must report to the FIC in cases of suspicious or unusual transactions and transactions involving persons suspected of terrorism-related activities under applicable laws.

3.12     Suspension for Non-compliance:

ScoreBet reserves the right to suspend any account that fails to meet FICA requirements.

3.13     Additional Request for Documentation:

ScoreBet may request customers to provide hard or soft copies of their identity documents, passports, or proof of residential address at any time.
